Eco-Friendly Weaving Kits: From Remote Design to Local Sustainability

for HGA Spinning and Weaving Week

From a small studio in Santiago, Chile, South America, I design weaving kits, write books, and I teach Zoom classes for makers all over the world.

In this talk I will to share how this small-format, slow textile practice is also a powerful tool for sustainable design, even when created remotely.

This talk has been previously recorded.

Woven Wisdom: Timeless South American Patterns in Modern Form

for The 30th Annual Weaving History Conference

This talk is a journey that goes deeper than just technique, it’s about cultural revival, creative transformation, and breathing new life into South American textile ancient traditions.

As an industrial designer from Chile, working on pin loom weaving for more than 15 years, Florencia will show the process behind adapting these ancient designs into pin loom weaving, a smaller-scale, modern, and often more accessible method, how this reinvention preserves cultural identity while making it relevant and wearable for contemporary audiences, which she has demonstrated in her own pattern designs and projects.

The main purpose of this talk is showing the idea that heritage can evolve and be made timeless, not locked in the past, but reimagined into new generations of design.
